LST Presents: Stand Your Ground Bible Study – An Introduction to Womanist Theology

This study is an introduction to Womanist theology, a way of understanding God and the Bible from the experiences of Black women in the United States.

We will discuss this theological movement’s origins, its commitments to justice for Black women (as well as all persons who suffer oppression), and the relevance of Womanist theology in light of current turmoil in the United States.

To help accomplish these goals, we will read Kelly Brown Douglas’s text, Stand Your Ground: Black Bodies and the Justice of God, which explores the relationship between the murder of Trayvon Martin and the cross of Jesus Christ, amid the history of exploitation of Black bodies in the United States.

Instructor: Dr. Linda Thomas, Full Professor of Theology and Anthropology at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

Dates: Saturdays, April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 2021

Time:  9:00 - 11:00 am CST

Cost:  $60
