Adult Education and

Faith Formation.

What does it mean to be a Sanctuary Denomination? (Sunday Adult Ed.) The ELCA recently voted to become a  sanctuary denomination. But what does that mean for Gethsemane? Sarah Unsicker spoke about and lined up speakers  during the Sunday School hour to talk about sanctuary and how we can walk alongside immigrants and refugees.

We started the series on October 20th with a discussion of what sanctuary means and to learn about immigration policies in the United States.

On November 3, 10 and 17, we took a deeper dive into how immigration policy affects mental health and what some  congregations are doing to provide sanctuary in St. Louis and New Mexico.

Throughout the series we discussed what we can do as individuals and as a congregation to walk alongside immigrants and refugees.

Stay tuned to this page for links to the the slideshow presentations. Due to technical difficulties, it is taking longer than anticipated. Thank you for your grace!

Adult Education question: Would you be willing to be someone who helps to organize our Adult Education Program, to line up speakers, suggest topics, host people who come to Gethsemane to share their passion?  We’d meet several times a year to work on the upcoming months.  Please see Pr. Liz or Marilyn McGuire to express interest

Bible Study : This small group  meets each Tuesday to look ahead at the coming Sunday’s scripture lessons.  They are currently discussing: “What on Earth am I Here for?” by Rick Warren.

Understand your God-given purpose by learning how to focus your energy, simplify your decisions, give your life meaning, and prepare yourself for eternity.  All are welcome.
